Last weekend I hiked TWO mountains in one day! East Osceola and Mount Osceola were numbers 4 and 5 on my quest. The best part was that we picked up Susan to go with us. I love my Susan!
on the tree-log |
Our trip started on the north end of the Greeley Ponds Trail off the Kancamagus Highway. It’s an easy walk with some streams but there are also some boardwalks. I didn’t want to walk on the log planks so I hopped off... but landed in a mud pit! Yuck!
East Osceola is my #4! |
The Chimney "work-around" |
Between the two mountains is easy... except for THE CHIMNEY! The Chimney goes straight up (I guess that is what a real chimney does? I don’t know what a chimney really is) and is not good for dogs. I was distracted watching a lot of people climb down. We read that there is a work-around so it would be okay but when we got there the workaround was really steep I got up and down most of it without the backpack on because it is narrow, but I needed a lift near the top. It was a big jump for me at a corner and no room to run. Maybe a tall dog could get up with no help.
View from Osceola! |
My peak #5 was much better than #4. Osceola has a big rock-ledge-view. It was a nice day and it was so pretty looking out at the other mountains! We had lunch and of course took photos. I also got more fans for the club! They loved me. We went back down the same way. I needed help on the Chimney again, but it wasn’t too bad. I remembered my lesson from earlier and stayed on the boardwalks the whole time at the end so I didn’t get stuck in a mud pit. AND when we were done hiking we got ICE CREAM! This was my first ice cream and ice cream is good and ice cream is yummy and ice cream is lovely and ice cream is tasty and I want ice cream after every hike!
